Football Signs Lawrence Standout

Michael Lisher will join the Wildcats for the 2013 season Michael Lisher will join the Wildcats for the 2013 season

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker University head football coach Mike Grossner announced on Tuesday the signing of former Lawrence Free State high school standout offensive lineman Michael Lisher to a letter of intent.

Lisher graduated from Free State High School in 2010 and was a first team all-state, all-metro and all-league selection as both a junior and senior. He also lettered in baseball while at Free State and was a member of the National Honor Society.

He began his collegiate career at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, but UNO dropped its football program due to its move from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I, thus Lisher transferred to Washburn.

In his freshman season at Washburn, Lisher played in three games and was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. This season for the Ichabods, he appeared in six games with one start against University of Nebraska-Kearney in the season opener.

Michael is the son of Diana and Bob Lisher, and Bob is the head football coach at Lawrence Free State high school.

Coach Grossner will look for Lisher to take over for first-team all-conference performer Jordan Robertson at the center position next Fall for the Wildcats.

"We were looking to sign an experienced center this offseason, and this is a huge plus for our program so early in the recruiting process," said Grossner. "We are very excited to have Michael join our program and hope he can come in and make an immediate impact."
