"We've got our work cut out for us early in our schedule," said head football coach Mike Grossner. "We will face three top 25 opponents in our first five games. University of St. Mary is also a team that won its last five games of the regular season. Our guys will be up for the challenge. Heck, just another year in the HAAC! Look forward to it."
The Wildcats are coming off of an 8-3 record and appearance in the 2012 NAIA FCS Playoffs. Baker began 2012 with a victory over Ottawa last season on the road, 27-20, to open up the season. Baker won three straight from that point on to began the year 4-0.
Ottawa went 8-3 a year ago and advanced to the NAIA FCS Playoffs taking on Missouri Valley on Nov. 17. The Braves fell at MVC, 56-21.
In week two, Baker will hit the road to take on another Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent in the University of St. Mary on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1:30 p.m. The Spires went 6-5 in 2012.
Baker will hit the road again on Saturday, Sept. 21 to take on Benedictine College in the HAAC opener. The Wildcats are in search of its eighth straight win over the Ravens. Baker hasn't lost to BC since the season opener in 2005.
Baker returns home for two straight after the BC game, as they take on Avila on Sept. 28 on Family Day at 6 p.m. and then will take on No. 12 MidAmerica Nazarene on Homecoming on Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.
The Wildcats will next take on Culver-Stockton on the road on Oct. 12, Baker defeated Culver-Stockton, 29-9, last year also on the road. Baker was 5-2 on the road in 2012.
On Oct. 19 the Wildcats will host Central Methodist at 2 p.m. That Saturday is also a big day in the Baldwin City community as it hosts the Maple Leaf Festival.
Baker will travel to Marshall, Mo., to take on No. 3 ranked Missouri Valley. The Vikings went 12-1 last season and advanced to the national semifinals of the NAIA FCS Playoffs, eventually losing to national champion Marian (Ind.), 20-17 at home.
The fifth ranked team the Wildcats will face in its 11-game schedule is No. 23 ranked Evangel University. Baker will host the Crusaders on Nov. 2 and will feature its 'Black Out' Liston Stadium event. All Baker fans attending the game are asked to wear black to the game.
The Wildcats will hit the road for the final time on Nov. 9 when they take on Graceland at 2 p.m. in Lamoni, Iowa. Baker hasn't lost to Graceland since the 2007 season.
The regular season will wrap up on Nov. 16, as the Wildcats host Peru State at 1 p.m. for senior day. Baker took down Peru, 34-13, on the road last season.
