Baker men set for rematch with Kansas Wesleyan

Curvonte McGown

SALINA, Kan. – The Baker men’s basketball team will be back in action on Tuesday night when it travels to Salina to face Kansas Wesleyan for the second time in two weeks.

Baker (2-2) is coming off a three-point defeat to local rival Ottawa University on Saturday night in Baldwin City.

Jaris Wommack led the team with 23 points on 57 percent shooting from the field. Andre Strozier added 20, but it wasn’t enough for the Wildcats to squeak by the Braves.

“We had many opportunities to win the game on Saturday and didn’t capitalize,” said head coach Brett Ballard. “Give a lot of credit to Ottawa for getting back in the game after being down 21-8. We need to figure out a way to put teams away when we have a double digit lead.”

Kansas Wesleyan (2-3) will be looking for redemption after dropping its previous contest with the Wildcats in the final seconds thanks to a historic buzzer-beating shot courtesy of Sam Kenney. Matt Dickman leads the Coyotes with 20 points per game and ranks 20th in Divison II total scoring with 103 points.

“We will need to be very focused and ready to play on Tuesday,” Ballard added. “We had a very tough game against Kansas Wesleyan the first time around and we know it will be even more difficult on the road. We are still playing without Sam Kenney (ankle) so some other guys will need to step up and be ready to play.”
