Baker men fall to McPherson, 63-77

McPHERSON, Kan. – Poor free throw shooting and points off turnovers ultimately doomed the Wildcats Friday night as they dropped their second game of the season to McPherson College 63-77.

Just two players scored in double figures for the Wildcats as Ben Steinlage and Todd Johnston led the team with 10 points.

The Wildcats trailed 24-25 heading into the break, but McPherson mounted a strong second half, outscoring the Wildcats 52-39.

Baker (5-2) was outrebounded 43-22 overall and 15-8 on offensive rebounds. The Wildcats shot 24-for-54 (44 percent) from the floor and 6-for-16 (38 percent) from beyond the arc.

Senior Jack Shortell had another solid effort, just missing another double-double with eight points and seven rebounds. Corey Anderson also added nine points on a 3-for-6 shooting performance from beyond the arc.

McPherson (8-0) had three players score in double figures in the contest as Chris Crawford and Samson Shivers led the team with 18 points. Jordan Crawford added 15 points and seven rebounds.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday afternoon against Bethany (Kan.) at 2:00 p.m.
