Baker men improve to 2-0 in the HAAC with 64-47 victory over Missouri Valley
MARSHALL, Mo. – Stingy defense and hot shooting lifted the Baker men’s basketball team to its second conference victory of the season on Saturday evening, defeating Missouri Valley College, 64-47.
Junior Corey Anderson was stellar yet again netting 18 points while shooting 6-for-10 from the floor and 2-for-5 from beyond the arc. Senior Jack Shortell was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 12 points.
“Corey Anderson is playing with good rhythm on offense,” said head coach Brett Ballard. “I thought we really played well defensively in the second half. The guys did a good job of following the scouting report.”
Baker (9-2, 2-0 HAAC) trailed 30-29 heading into the break, but forced turnovers and a 56 percent shooting performance from the floor in the second half allowed the Wildcats to outscore the Vikings 35-17.
Michael Connor led the way offensively for Missouri Valley College (3-6, 1-1 HAAC) netting 15 points while shooting 5-for-11 from the floor. The Vikings shot just 4-for-19 (21 percent) from the floor in the second half.
Baker returns to action on Dec. 7 in Baldwin City when they host Evangel University (9-3, 2-0 HAAC) with first place on the line. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
