Wildcats drop first HAAC game of the season to No. 14 Evangel, 69-53

Drop First HAAC Game

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker hung with the Crusaders for the first eight minutes of the contest, but from that point forward Evangel never looked back, taking the lead for good with a 9-2 run to end the first half.

Baker (9-3, 2-1 HAAC) closed the gap to within four points midway through the second half, but Evangel methodically put together a 19-2 run in a span of just over five minutes to erase any chance of a Baker upset.

Jordan Honore and Ben Steinlage were the only Wildcats in double figures as each scored a team-high 13 points.

14th ranked Evangel (10-3, 3-0 HAAC) had three players score in double figures as Zack Kleine led the way with 22 points and nine rebounds. Cale Ramsey added 14 points and Jayme Donnelly chipped in with 10.

Baker finished the contest 20-for-58 (34.5 percent) from the floor and 2-for-14 (14 percent) from beyond the arc. Free throws were the killer though as Baker was just 11-for-23 (47 percent) from the charity stripe.

Evangel finished the game 26-for-63 (41 percent) from the floor, while converting 14-of-19 free throw attempts. The Crusaders also outrebounded Baker 47-41.

The Wildcats return to action on Dec. 29 when they travel to San Diego, Calif., to face Point Loma Nazarene in the San Diego Classic.
