Senior Day victory sets up playoff showdown with Benedictine on Wednesday

Playoff Push

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Coming into Senior Day, Baker University knew it had to win in order to secure a home playoff game on Wednesday. The Wildcats did just that, taking care of business by knocking off Central Methodist University, 90-75 on Senior Day.

Junior Corey Anderson led all Baker scorers with 23 points, while Ben Steinlage (17 points), Todd Johnston (12 points), and Jack Shortell (11 points) all scored in double figures.

After taking just a 36-35 advantage into the locker room at half, Baker opened up the second half with a 20-6 run in the first ten minutes to build a lead they never relinquished. The Wildcats finished the contest 31-for-59 (53 percent) from the floor and 11-for-22 (50 percent) from beyond the arc. Baker’s bench outscored Central Methodist 66-17 in the contest.

The Eagles (14-14, 8-10 HAAC) had two players finish in double figures as Melvin Tillman scored a game-high 33 points and Alex Barner closed with 16.

“I was happy with the way our guys bounced back today,” said Baker head coach Brett Ballard. “We’re hoping to see a nice crowd out here Wednesday for the first home playoff game in I think what has to be over a decade.”

Baker (19-10, 12-6 HAAC) will enter the 2012 HAAC Postseason Tournament as a No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Benedictine College on Feb. 29 at 7 p.m., in the George F. Collins Center. Baker’s last home playoff game was in 1999-2000 when the Wildcats finished 10-8 in HAAC play.
