OTTAWA, Kan. – The Baker University men's basketball team picked up its second win of the season on Saturday with a 71-66 victory over the University of St. Mary on the campus of Ottawa University in day one of the KCAC/HAAC Classic.

Members of the two conferences will face off this weekend in a non-conference showdown. The Wildcats will take on host Ottawa on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Baker improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Spires fell to 2-2. The Wildcats had three players score in double figures including a game high 17 from senior leader Ben Steinlage.

Corey Anderson and Chris Lockhart each poured in 15 points and the Wildcats shot 21-of-29 from the free-throw line, with Steinlage knocking down 10-of-11.

Baker entered halftime up, 36-28, and despite USM outscoring Baker, 38-35 in the second half, Baker never gave up its halftime lead.

Jeb Greenberg had a big game for St. Mary with a game high 16 rebounds and 16 points and Kevin Harvey had a game high 20.

The Spires did outrebounds Baker, 44-32, but turned the ball over 25 times compared to just 17 by Baker.

"Today was a great team win," said head coach Sean Dooley. "We got contributions from a lot of guys and we had a few guys off the bench that really stepped up for us in the second half. Again, I thought our effort on the defensive end was good."

Julian Mills led the way in assists with four and had a big block late in the second half that stopped what looked to be a fast break layup, but the quick point guard went up and blocked the shot and Steinlage came down with the board.

Baba Diallo and Steinlage led the team in steals with three and Lysaught and Steinlage each led the team with five rebounds.
