Baker Suffers Road Loss at No. 16 EU

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – No. 16 Evangel University led with hot shooting and stifling defense to run past Baker University, 80-39, on Tuesday night to hand Baker its second conference loss of the season.

The Crusaders improved to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while the Wildcats fell to 7-5 and 1-2 in the HAAC.

Baker had a poor night shooting, going 13-of-48 from the floor at a clip of 27.1-percent, and Evangel shot 61.7 and 73.9 from the free-throw line.

Ben Steinlage led Baker with nine points on the night and the Wildcats managed just two three-point field goals with Jordan Honore and Corey Anderson knocking down one apiece.

Evangel posted four double-digit scorers, as Jayme Donnelly led all players with 15 and teammate Stephen Cotton added 14.

Two other Crusaders scored in double figures, as Victor Agbasi dropped 11 and Brodie Wingert scored 10.

Evangel outrebounded Baker, 36-23, and only turned the ball over 12 times. Evangel led throughout and the score was only tied once at 2-2 in the first half.

The Wildcats will return to the hardwood on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in an exhibition game at NCAA Division II William Jewell College.

STATS: Baker 39 – Evangel 80
