BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University men's basketball team ended its four game winning streak on Saturday afternoon at the hands of No. 21 ranked Evangel University, 76-69.

The Crusaders improved to 17-5 and 10-2 in the HAAC and are now alone in first-place in the conference standings with No. 17 MidAmerica Nazarene's road loss at Central Methodist, 83-73 on Saturday.

The Wildcats fall for the first time since its 52-39 loss at Benedictine back on Jan. 17 and is now 14-9 overall and 7-6 in the HAAC.

Evangel was outstanding shooting from the floor, connecting on 26-of-46 for a shooting percentage of 56.5-percent and shot 68.4-percent from the field in the second half.

The Crusaders entered halftime up six, 32-26, and came out on fire in the second half making its first nine shots out of the break and didn't miss its first shot of the half until the 9:31 mark when Stephen Cotton missed a 10-footer.

They nailed five three's in a row and four jumpers in that 9-for-9 span. Brodie Wingert was 5-of-5 from behind the arc for Evangel and led all scorers with 19 points.

Todd Johnston came off the bench for the Wildcats and scored a team-high 16 points and nailed three, three-point field goals and was 6-of-9 from the floor.

The Wildcats were efficient from the free-throw line, shooting 10-of-12 and nailed eight three-point field goals as a team.

Ben Steinlage also scored 13 points with seven rebounds in 31 minutes of action and Corey Anderson was the other Wildcat to score in double figures with his 12 points.

Baker will next take on Peru State on the road this Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Peru, Neb. The Wildcats defeated Peru, 65-61, at the Collins Center back on Jan. 3.
