Ballard’s Ballers: Baker continues to rise in HAAC standings
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Defensive pressure is something Baker prides itself on each and every game. Statistically, it shows.
The Wildcats enter Saturday’s contest with Missouri Valley College ranked sixth nationally with a field goal defense of 39 percent and ninth nationally with 29 defensive rebounds per game. Not to mention a rebound margin of +6.8, good enough for 15th nationally.

Balanced scoring leads Baker past Central Methodist
FAYETTE, Mo. – Five players scored in double figures and the Wildcats shot a lights out 62 percent from the field on Saturday to defeat Central Methodist University, 89-78 for their second consecutive victory.
Jack Shortell finished with a game-high 19 points while shooting 9-for-11 from the floor. Jordan Honore added 17 points going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor. Ben Steinlage, Corey Anderson, and Joe Wachter each added 15, 14, and 11 points respectively.
“Coach Sherman and I joked about not shooting the ball well at the beginning of the game,” said head coach Brett Ballard. “Sure enough, once you start talking about it, we made some shots. I thought our guys shot it with confidence and we’ve been getting some good looks in conference and just not knocking them down. I don’t think it’s anything different. We made some, they made a lot early and we were able to sustain their run and then kind of held them off there late.”

Baker picks up key HAAC victory with 54-43 victory over Benedictine
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After dropping back-to-back games last week, the Baker University men’s basketball team bounced back with a key HAAC victory on Thursday evening, defeating local rival Benedictine College, 54-43.
“The guys worked hard all week in practice, this was a big game for us to win and get back on track on our home floor,” said head coach Brett Ballard. “If we can turn the corner after this weekend at 6-3 (in the HAAC) it would put us in a great position heading into next week. Central Methodist will be a good test for us on the road.”

Lamar wins No. 599 as Baker men fall to MNU, 79-69
OLATHE, Kan. – Going into the contest the Baker men’s basketball team knew it would need to play flawless on the road in order to have a chance at knocking off first place MidAmerica Nazarene. 21 turnovers later, it was Baker suffering a 79-69 setback to the Pioneers on Thursday evening.
MNU scored the first bucket of the game and never trailed from that point forward as Baker’s closet margin came at the 8:34 mark of the first half when the Wildcats pulled to within six points at 22-16. The Pioneers closed out the half with a 22-12 run in the final seven minutes.

Steinlage leads Baker in 83-50 rout of Culver-Stockton College
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker jumped out to an early 16-3 lead within the first six minutes of the game and never looked back as the Wildcats cruised to an 83-50 victory over Culver-Stockton College.
Ben Steinlage recorded a game-high 20 points, while Corey Anderson and Todd Eils each chipped in with 13 and 10 points respectively. Anderson also led the Wildcats defensively, pulling down eight rebounds.
Baker men cruise to 76-50 victory over Peru State College
PERU, Neb. - Corey Anderson led all Baker scorers witha game-high 16 points on Thursday evening, helping Baker improve to 3-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with a 76-50 victory over Peru State College.
Baker (10-5 overall, 3-1 HAAC) jumped out to an early 13-0 lead within the first seven minutes of the game and never looked back from that point forward, taking a 41-28 lead heading into the break.

Wildcats drop two in San Diego Classic
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – It wasn’t the outcome head coach Brett Ballard had hoped for when the ‘Cats scheduled their holiday west coast swing. The Wildcats dropped their tournament-opening contest to Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.), 80-51 before bowing on the final day 77-51 to San Diego Christian College.
Brandon Moore was the only Wildcat to score in double figures against Point Loma Nazarene with 10 points, while shooting 2-for-8 from beyond the arc. The Sea Lions had three players score in double figures with Rhett Beal leading the way netting a team-high 24 points. PLNU finished the contest 23-for-39 (47 percent) from the field and 9-for-18 (50 percent) from beyond the arc.

Wildcats drop first HAAC game of the season to No. 14 Evangel, 69-53
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker hung with the Crusaders for the first eight minutes of the contest, but from that point forward Evangel never looked back, taking the lead for good with a 9-2 run to end the first half.
Baker (9-3, 2-1 HAAC) closed the gap to within four points midway through the second half, but Evangel methodically put together a 19-2 run in a span of just over five minutes to erase any chance of a Baker upset.
