Baker men win big over Ottawa
Fayette, Mo. - The Baker men's basketball team got back on track Saturday afternoon when they defeated local rival Ottawa University 93-66.
Newcomer Austin Bond led the way offensively netting 17 points off 6-of-7 shooting from the field. Andre Strozier, who led the team in scoring last night, pulled down 10 rebounds while chipping in with 14 points off 5-of-15 shooting from the field.
At the end of the day, the Wildcats had five players score in double digits as they improved their season record to 1-1.
Baker shot 50.7 percent from the field and 65 percent from beyond the arc. Catch your Wildcats in action Tuesday as they face Friends University at 7:30 p.m. at the Collins Center.

Baker men fall in season opener
Fayette, Mo. - The Baker men were defeated in their season opener Friday evening 64-66. Baker had three players score in double digits, but it wasn't enough to take down the Spires of St. Mary.
Andre Strozier netted 17 points, Malcolm Greer 15, and Ryckey Harper 10 as the Wildcats fell to 0-1 on the season.
Baker will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on local rival Ottawa University.

Baker travels to Central Methodist Invitational to begin 2009 season
Fayette, MO. - The Baker University men's basketball team will kick off their 2009 campaign Friday evening when they take on the University of St. Mary at the Central Methodist Invitational.
Seniors Brock Entner (pictured) and Malcolm Greer will look to lead the way for a handful of newcomers and transfers added to the Baker lineup. Greer was the Wildcats' leading scorer in 2008, averaging 13.5 points per game, while Entner sat just behind Greer at 11.6 points per game.

Basketball teams to host alumni games Sunday
The Baker men's and women’s basketball teams will showcase their talent to alums on Sunday. The women will start the action at 4 p.m., followed by the men at 6 p.m.

Head coach Rick Weaver to be inducted into Morningside Hall of Fame
Head coach Rick Weaver will travel to Morningside College this upcoming weekend as he will be inducted into the Mustangs athletic Hall of Fame. Weaver, a 1972 graduate, was a three-year starter for Morningside's men's basketball team. During the course of his career he averaged 13.2 points, while earning first-team All-NCC honors as a senior when he scored 362 points for the 10th highest single-season total in morningside history at the time. A handful of returnees will combine with a bevy of newcomers as the Baker Wildcats prepare for the 2009-2010 season. Leading the veterans will be 6’0 point guard BROCK ENTNER (pictured) and 6’4 swingman MALCOLM GREER (pictured). Entner earned honorable mention all-league honors last season while Greer was a third team all-conference selection. 6’0 JOE WACHTER, 6’0 CONNOR BECHARD and 6’3 DREW BERG saw limited action last year and will be competing for playing time as well.
Several new players will be playing major roles for the ‘Cats. 6’5 RYAN DOUVIER (Hutchinson CC) and 6’7 JACK SHORTELL (KCKCC) are expected to be key inside players. 6’4 AUSTIN BOND (Hutchison CC), 6’1 JARIS WOMMACK (John Wood CC) and 6’0 RYCKEY HARPER (Southwestern-Iowa), will join incoming freshman 5’10 SAM KENNEY and 6’2 COREY ANDERSON on the perimeter.
“We should be a bit deeper at most positions than we were last season, especially on the perimeter. With so many new players, there will be a period of adjustment, but I think this group will be a fun team to watch.”
