KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Baker University men’s basketball team was selected to finish third in Monday’s 2012 HAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, announced at the annual Media Day festivities inside the Hall of Fame suite at the Kansas City Royals Kauffman Stadium.
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – First-year head men’s basketball coach Sean Dooley has signed five new student-athletes for his first recruiting class at Baker University and adds depth to a team that qualified for the 2012 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship Tournament for the first time since 1941.

Baker University names Sean Dooley men’s basketball coach
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Sean Dooley, an assistant coach at perennial NAIA basketball powerhouse Columbia (Mo.) College, has been named the 26th head coach in Baker University men’s basketball history, Baker University Director of Athletics Theresa Yetmar announced on Friday.
At Columbia, Dooley is coming off four consecutive 25-plus win seasons and four trips to the NAIA National Tournament, including one NAIA National runner-up finish.
“Sean is a great fit to lead our program,” Yetmar said. “His work ethic, values and passion for mentoring student-athletes naturally align with our mission. Sean has provided strong leadership for winning NAIA programs and we expect our men’s basketball program to consistently compete at a championship level.”

Baker University head coach Brett Ballard set to join Manning at Tulsa
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker University head men’s basketball coach Brett Ballard has accepted a coaching position at the University of Tulsa, the BU athletic department announced on Thursday afternoon.
Ballard will join the Hurricane as an assistant coach under legendary KU player and assistant coach Danny Manning.
During his time at Baker, Ballard led the Wildcats to new heights in just two seasons.

Ben Steinlage named NAIA Honorable Mention All-American
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After leading Baker to its first NAIA DI Men’s Basketball National Championship appearance since 1941, Baker’s leading scorer Ben Steinlage with 12.3 points per game was named to the 2012 NAIA DI Men’s Basketball All-America Team.
Steinlage finished with 14 points and five rebounds in Baker’s, 103-88 loss to Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) in the opening round of the national tournament. Steinlage also led the Wildcats will 6.1 rebounds per game and five double-doubles on the season.

High-powered OLLU knocks off Baker, 103-88
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Baker opened the game with a 21-6 run over the first 13 minutes, but it wasn’t enough to stop a huge comeback by Our Lady of the Lake over the final seven minutes of the first half as the Saints finished on a 37-21 run to take a 44-42 lead into the locker room.
“We got off to a great start and handled their pressure well early,” said Baker head coach Brett Ballard. “We had about a six to seven minute stretch there where we didn’t execute and allowed them to get back into the game.”

Baker set to face No. 7 Our Lady of the Lake Wednesday evening
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time since 1996-97, Baker University is back in the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championships. For the first time since 1941, Baker University is back in the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championships.
Host seed Baker University (21-11) will look to make history on Wednesday evening as the Wildcats face seventh-seeded Our Lady of the Lake (26-7) at 6:15 p.m., from historic Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., in the opening round of the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship.

Baker falls to MNU in HAAC Championship Game
OLATHE, Kan. – Ben Steinlage scored 18 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, but Baker was never able to get over the hump as MNU never trailed in a 75-68 victory over the Wildcats Monday evening.
Jordan Honore was the only other Wildcat to score in double figures as he finished the game with 16 points. Luke Thomas of MNU stole the show though, scoring a game-high 21 points while shooting 8-for-11 from the floor to go along with 13 rebounds.
