Men's golf begins fall season

The BU men’s varsity and JV golf teams completed play this afternoon in the two-day 36-hole William Woods University Show Me Summer Shootout.

William Woods, McKendree College and Baker University squads competed from the NAIA. NCAA D-II Pittsburg State University was joined by provisional-status NCAA D-II University of Arkansas-Ft. Smith.

Conditions were outstanding both days with cool, crisp, sunny weather in the mid-70s.  The field played well both days shooting strong scores.  William Woods Varsity squad won the tournament followed by McKendree’s Varsity in second place.  UA-Ft. Smith was third, Baker finished fourth, and Pittsburg State finished fifth.  Baker University Senior Co-Captain Gavin Tatrn led the baker golfers with a 3-over-par two-day total shooting rounds of 73 and 74.  Two freshmen, Mason Dick and Andy Sherman provided solid tournament outings.  Mason Dick shot 1-over par 73 Monday and followed that up with a round of 79 on Tuesday.  Andy Sherman shot 78 Monday and finished with a strong 3-over par 75 on Tuesday.  Junior Adam Taylor played a strong role for the JV squad shooting rounds of 77 Monday and 79 Tuesday.

The next outing for the BU Varsity and JV Men is the 54-hole two-day Evangel University tournament hosted at Silo Ridge GC in Bolivar, MO  Tuesday and Wednesday, September 15-16.
