An exceptionally wet course greeted the Cat golfers when 2-3 inches of rain hit the entire area on Thursday causing greens and fairways to be saturated with standing water. The James River which runs through the golf course ran near flood stage most of Friday, but receded several feet Saturday.
Although Friday's round saw warm and sunning conditions with light winds, Saturday was exceptionally windy, cloudy and cold, causing scores to increase by 2-4 strokes per golfer on average. Nevertheless, the Baker men were glad to finally get outdoors for competition and get their first tournament in the books.
Junior Adam Taylor (Independence, Kan.) and Senior Gavin Tatrn (Topeka, Kan.) led the Wildcats with scores of 78-81 and 77-82 respectively to finish tied for 18th in the 68-man field. Freshman Mason Dick was third among the Cat golfers with scores of 77-84, good enough for a tie at 26th. The Varsity squad finished 8th of the 12-team field that featured NAIA, NCAA D-III, and junior college competition.
