Golf Takes Third, Zuzelski Finishes Third

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University men's golf team got off to a strong start to its 2013 Spring season with a third-place finish out of 15 teams at Mozingo Lake Golf Club in Maryville, Mo., at the Graceland University Spring Invite.

The Wildcats featured five golfers on its varsity squad and five on its junior varsity squad, the varsity team took third, while the junior varsity team finished tied for 10th.

The top individual finish went to Alex Zuzelski, as he tied for third with a first round 71 and a second round 77, for a two-day score of 148.

Kelley Thompson finished five strokes behind Zuzelski with a 153, tying for 12th and Mason Dick tied for 15th with a two-day score of 154. The other varsity golfer's were Andy Kelley, who took 27th with a two-day score of 157 and Grant Grego also fired a 157.

"It is clear that our men's team is motivated to earn 1st-place in the HAAC Conference and the auto berth to the 2013 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship," said head coach Karen Exon. "They used their winter months to hit the weight room and wellness facility as well as our indoor Mabee Gym hitting cages. Nearly every guy came back stronger and with greater core strength. And I am especially pleased that we convincingly defeated all other HAAC Conference competitors at the Mozingo Lake GC that will host the 2013 HAAC Men's Golf Championship at the end of April."

The BU Varsity team posted 9 of 10 scores in the 70s for the 2-round 36-hole tournament, throwing out the team-high score of 79 for the second-round team score.

Senior Jacob Draisey paced the BU JV team with scores of 77-78 after a good winter in the BU exercise facilities. Sophomore Zack Pickett posted scores of 82-78 to round out the Wildcat golfers who broke 80 for this tournament.

Next up for the BU Men's Golf team is April 14-16 at the Central Methodist University Spring Tournament.
