Baker Men win Host Tournament

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Baker University men's and women's golf teams swept its host Baker University Spring Invitational tournament on Thursday afternoon with first-place finishes in each of its tournament's at Alavamer Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan.

The Baker men's team finished first out of six teams with a two-round score of 636, and the women defeated five other teams with a two-round score of 769.

Alex Zulelski shot a team best 155 with a first round score of 78 and second round of 77 and tied for third.

Rachel Strecker won the women's tournament with a first-place two-round score of 183. She shot an 85 in day one and a 98 in day two.

Also on the men's side, Mason Dick finished tied for seventh with a 159 and Kelley Thompson and Andy Kelley each tied for 11th with a 163.

Baker finished ahead of second-place Central Methodist by just one stroke, the outshot third-place Avila by two strokes, fourth-place Evangel by four, fifth-place Lindenwood-Belleville by 41 and the Baker JV squad by 72 strokes.

The women's team had two other Wildcats score in the top five, as Rebecca Holder tied for fourth with a 190 and Lindsey Mateer finished tied for fifth with a 192.

Bristol Brandt shot a two-day 204 and finished tied for 18th and Jade Brake finished 20th. Emma Tinsley fired a 229 and took 23rd.

The Baker women's team finished ahead of Graceland by 15 strokes, third-place Central Methodist finished 20 strokes behind the Wildcats, fifth-place Avila shot an 829 which was 60 strokes behind the 'Cats, Peru State took sixth and finished 88 strokes behind Baker and last place Missouri Valley shot a two-round score of 970, 201 strokes behind Baker.

Baker will now take on the HAAC Championships, as the men will travel to Maryville, Mo., on Apr. 28-29 at Mozingo Lake Golf Course and the women will compete in the HAAC championships on May 6-7 at Spring Lake Country Club in Quincy, Ill.
