Men’s Golf Has Record Setting Day

BOONVILLE, Mo. – The Baker University men's golf team and junior golfer Kelley Thompson had a record setting day on Wednesday and Thursday at the CMU Fall Eagle Open at the Hail Ridge Golf Course.

As a team Baker shot its lowest team score and Thompson shot the lowest individual round of any player since head coach Karen Exon took over the program in 2005.

The Wildcats won the tournament over seven other teams with a first round score of 297, a second round score of 286 for a total round of 583. They out shot every team by at least 11 strokes.

The team that finished just behind Baker, as strange as it sounds, was Baker. The BU JV squad took second overall with a first round score of 299, second round of 295 for a total score of 594.

Thompson shot the lowest round of any player at Baker since 2005 with a first round -5 66 and then shot a par 71 on day two. He shot the lowest two-day round of any golfer in the tournament with a score of 137.

Two varsity golfers finished in the top five, as Andy Kelley tied for second with a two-day score of 141, Grant Grego tied for fourth with his final score of 145.

Another JV golfer that had a stellar performance was junior Zach Pickett who shot a first round 76 and then followed that up with a 69 on day two to tie for fourth.

Baker finished ahead of defending Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament champion and tournament host Central Methodist and finished ahead of fellow HAAC opponents Missouri Valley and Evangel.
