BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University men’s golf team ended its season on Tuesday at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships at Swope Memorial Golf Course out of 11 teams competing.

Baker finished the three round tournament with scores of 306, 310 and 308, total of 924. Grand View captured first place with scores of 290, 285, 296 total of 871.

Christian Bickley shot all three of his rounds in the 70’s with a 77, 77 and 75 for the top finish for the Wildcats, finishing in T-23.

Kyle Barbee took home 25th place, while Alec Wuellner T-33 with a 78, 78, 80. Also competing for Baker was Chad Phillips with his T-36 and Grant Grego T-43.

WINFIELD, Kan. – The Baker University men’s golf team ended its Fall campaign with a 5th place finish out of six teams at the Southwestern College Fall Invite this week.

The Wildcats shot a two-day score of 659, while Hutchinson CC took home first place with a 621.

Senior Grant Grego shot the lowest two-day score of any Wildcat with a 161 and T-12.

Alec Wuellner and Christian Bickley finished just one shot behind Grego and T-15. Also competing for Baker was Aaron Brooks, Aaron Stewart and Logan Lashbrook. Brooks and Stewart each T-34, while Lashbrook took home 36th place.\

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Baker University men’s golf team hosted the 2015 Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship this week at Alvamar Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan.

The Wildcats finished in fifth-place out of seven teams, while Culver-Stockton captured first place and Ryan Keller of CSC won the individual award. CSC head coach Tim Schrage was also named the Coach of the Year.

Christian Bickley led all Wildcats with his T-11, 235 three round score, while Grant Grego was the only other Wildcat to finish in the Top 15 with a T-14.

Zach Pickett competed in his final tournament as a Wildcat and finished T-21 and teammate Kelley Thompson also competed in his final collegiate tournament and finished in 27th. Freshman Zach Spencer was the final Wildcat to compete and he T-29.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker University junior golfer Grant Grego’s 8th-place finish last weekend at the Evangel Spring Invite helped earn him this week’s Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week Honor.

The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native shot a two-day score of 152 last week and helped lead Baker to a 4th-place team finish out of 11 teams and the ‘Cats finished ahead of the two other HAAC schools in competition Evangel and CMU.

He shot a first round 71 and then followed it up with a second round 81.

Baker will host the BU Spring Invitational at Alvamar Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan., next Apr. 15 and 16.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Baker University men’s golf team finished in fourth place out of 11 teams to open up the 2015 spring season, as they competed at the Evangel Spring Invite at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.

The Wildcats shot 307 as a team on day one and then followed that up with a 317 for a team score of 624, 20 shots back of first-place Lindenwood-Belleville University.

Grant Grego led Baker with his eighth-place finish score of 152, while Zach Pickett also finished in the Top 10 with a 10th-place finish, 155.

The three other Wildcats to participate on the varsity team was Zach Sepencer who took home T-12 with a two-day score of 157, Alec Wuellner finished T-17 with a 160 and Kelley Thompson was T-27 with a 166.

The Wildcats did finish ahead of the two other Heart of America Athletic Conference teams in competition, as they finished 32 strokes lower than host school Evangel University and 56 strokes lower than Central Methodist.

“Overall this is a good start to our spring schedule,” said head coach Karen Exon. “This tournament showed our guys what they need to work on individually in preparation for our next tournament--the Baker Spring Invitational scheduled for April 15-16 at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan.”

The Baker JV squad finished in 11th place as Chad Phillips, Christian Bickley, Aaron Stewart, Logan Lashbrook and Aaron Brooks competed for the ‘Cats.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Baker University men's golf team wrapped up the Fall season on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at the HAAC Preview Tournament at Oakwood Country Club hosted by Avila University.

The Wildcats finished in fourth place out of seven teams with a one-round score of 346, Evangel captured first place with a 327.

The tournament was scheduled to take place on Monday and Tuesday, but rain cancelled day one and forced just a one-day tournament.

Grant Grego shot the low score of the day for Baker with his 79 and tied for first place with Garrett Dollins, but after a scorecard playoff Dollins captured the individual crown.

Other Wildcats to finish in the Top 20 were Christian Bickley (T-14), Logan Lashbrook (18) and Chad Phillps (T-19).

Aaron Stewart and Zach Spencer each tied in 21st place with a score of 89 and Zach Pickett and Aaron Brooks each T-24 with a 90.

Also competing for Baker was Kelly Thompson and Alec Wuellner who each shot a 93 and T-32.

MARSHALL, Mo. – The Baker University men's golf team took second place out of two teams this week at the Missouri Valley Fall Invite at Indian Foothills Golf Club.

Host Missouri Valley captured first place in the tournament that lasted just one round, because day two was cancelled due to rain.

The Vikings finished its round with a 294, while Baker shot 303 as a team. Kelley Thompson was the Wildcats top finisher with a 71 and placed second, while Grant Grego was the only other varsity Wildcat to finish in the Top 10 with his third place finish round of 72.

Zach Spencer finished T-13 and Chad Phillips was T-18. Alec Wuellner shot an 85 and finished in 23rd.

Baker will end the regular season this Monday and Tuesday at Oakwood Country Club in Kansas City, Mo., at the HAAC Preview.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Baker University men's golf team competed at the Evangel Invite at Rivercut Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday and took home fifth place out of 10 teams.

Five HAAC teams competed at the Invite including Evangel (2nd Place), Missouri Valley (3rd Place), Culver-Stockton (4th Place), Baker (5th Place) and Central Methodist (8th Place).

Individually Chad Phillips led the 'Cats in the three round tournament with scores of 82, 72, 80 for a total of 234 and a tie for 17th.

Fellow teammate Kelley Thompson finished in 18th right behind Phillips with a total of 237 and Grant Grego was the other Wildcat to finish in the Top 20 at 20th with his 79, 79 and 80.

Alec Wuellner finished in 31st place with a 244 and reigning HAAC Men's Golfer of the Week Kyle Fecteau took home a T-34.

Baker will next compete on Oct. 8-9 at the Missouri Valley Invite at the Indian Foothills Golf Course in Marshall, Mo.

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Baker University men's and women's golf teams competed in the Ottawa Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan., and competed well as the men's squad captured first place out of nine teams, while the women's team secured second place out of seven squads.

The men's team finished day one in fourth place with a score of 322 and was seven shots off the pace, but then stormed back with a 313 to take home first place, two shots ahead of Barton County CC.

The women's squad finished day one and day two in second place with rounds of 335 and 329 respectively and ended six shots back of first place Kansas Wesleyan.

Baker's top individual golfer was Kyle Fecteau who actually competed for the BU JV team at the tourney. He ended the tournament with a two-day score of 147 and tied for first with Barton County's Nathapol Sriwoon. After a scorecard playoff, Sriwoon captured the individual crown.

The only other Wildcat to finish in the Top 10 was freshman Alec Wuellner who tied for 10th with an 80 and 77 total of 157. In a field of 62 golfers, Baker had six finish in the Top 25 including Chad Phillips (T-12), Grant Grego (T-15), Kelley Thompson (T-21) and Zach Spencer (T-25).

On the women's side, reigning HAAC Golfer of the Week Lindsey Mateer again led the way for Baker with the lowest round in her collegiate career on day one with a 73. She followed that up with an 82 on day two and finished in second place, three shots behind Aspen Bryant of Bethany.

Bailey Gibson finished the tournament in the Top five with her tie for third place. She shot rounds of 84 and 77 for a 161.

Other Wildcats in the Top 25 were Emma Tinsley with her 173 total good for T-14. Bailey Rockers and Morgan Miller finished up T-18 with two-day scores of 175 and Jade Brake took home a T-22 and Amber Mechtley was T-24 with a 183 total score.

The men's squad will next compete at the Evangel Invitational on Sept. 22-23 in Springfield, Mo., while the women's team will compete on Sept. 29-30 at the Columbia College Fall Invite in Columbia, Mo.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker University head men's golf coach Karen Exon announces the signing of a four-man class to the 2014-15 BU men's golf team on Tuesday.

Exon is pleased to announce the signing of Aaron Brooks, Jefferson West HS (Meriden, Kan.), Logan Lashbrook Park Hill HS (Parkville, Mo.), Zach Spencer Olathe East HS (Olathe, Kan.) and Alec Wuellner Piper HS (Kansas City, Kan.).

Brooks was a four-year letter winner for the Kansas Class 4A Jefferson West HS golf program and played football for the Tigers.

Lashbrook was also a four-year letter winner for Park Hill HS. He competed in the Missouri Class 4 State Championship finishing 32nd in 2011 and 2012, 18th in 2013, and 10th in 2014.

Spencer competed on the varsity team for Kansas Class 6A Olathe East HS in 2013 and 2014. He finished 29th at the 2013 Kansas 6A Boys Golf Championship shooting 80 at Meadowbrook CC and 18th at the 2014 Kansas 6A Boys Golf Championship shooting 79 at Topeka CC.

Wuellner played all four years at Piper HS and competed in the Kansas Class 4A state golf championships all four years finishing T39 in 2011 at Prairie Dunes CC, T39 at Dub's Dread GC, 54th at Cherry Oakes GC and 7th in 2014 at Firekeeper GC.

He helped his team win a state championship in 2012 and a runner-up finish in 2013.

"I am very pleased to welcome Aaron, Logan, Zach, and Alec to the BU Men's Golf team," said Exon. "Each man is a strong student, good citizen, peer leader, and they are coachable with a demonstrated desire to get better as men and as golfers.

"We lost two strong seniors to 2014 graduation in Alex Zuzelski and Andy Kelley, who anchored our varsity team providing strong leadership on the golf course, and were solid leaders on campus and in the classroom. The incoming freshmen promise to do well academically, engaged effectively on our campus and larger community, and they have a chance to make an instant impact on our golf team."
