No.  2 Baker grabs share of 2011 HAAC title with draw against No. 6 Vikings

2011 Msoccer HAAC Champions

MARSHALL, Mo. – The Baker University men’s soccer team finished the 2011 regular season campaign undefeated Tuesday evening after playing to a 2-2 draw with sixth-ranked Missouri Valley College.

Missouri Valley got on the scoreboard first Tuesday evening thanks to a team goal just 22 minutes into the contest. Donnie George would strike back for the Wildcats just 28 seconds later to even the score.

“The men went behind for the first time this season on an own goal, but quickly answered 28 seconds later thanks to Donny George,” said head coach Nate Houser. “They stretched the lead to 2-1 heading into halftime, but Sean McAlister scored a great goal to tie the game.”

Seyed Amadodin put Missouri Valley back on top just four minutes later after he received a ball from Alberto Gomez and the game remained scoreless from that point forward until Sean McAlister struck in the 69th minute to even the score at 2-2.

Baker goalkeeper Matt Bickley played arguably his best game of the season, as he made three three critical saves down the stretch to keep Baker in the game. Bickley finished the game with seven saves.

“Both teams were a couple inches away on numerous occasions,” Houser added. “Missouri Valley hit the post a few times and we had chances on our end. It was a very good night of soccer by two very good teams.”

The Wildcats will garner the No. 2 seed in the 2011 HAAC Playoffs due to a tiebreaker in goal differential. Missouri Valley finished the season at +13 and Baker finished the season at +12.
