Wildcats fall to No. 1 Lindsey Wilson in NAIA Semifinals

Great Season

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Eight-time national champion Lindsey Wilson defeated Baker University 2-0 Friday evening at the Orange Beach Sportsplex, ending Baker’s historic run to the NAIA Men’s National Championship semifinals.

The second-seeded Blue Raiders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 10 minutes into the contest when Eddy Campbell netted the first tally of the game thanks to a shot into the box from Mat Luak.

No. 3 Baker (20-2-1) was outshot 6-4 on goal and 14-13 overall. Odaine Sinclair finished the contest as Baker’s overall shot leader with five, one of which was on goal.

Lindsey Wilson (22-0-0) sealed the game in the 64th minute on a goal from Phillip Sandgren after receiving a ball in the box from Anyelo Avila.

Baker goalkeeper Matt Bickley finished the contest with three saves and Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Yuta Momura had five saves in the shutout victory.

“The guys were great and they gave every ounce of everything they had since Aug. 14th,” said head coach Nate Houser. “They went out with everything tonight, but tip your hat to Lindsey Wilson, there’s no shame in what happened. I’m honored to have a complete soccer program. I want to thank the faculty, students and administrators at Baker University. Their support makes all the things the players do possible.”

The Blue Raiders move on to face No. 2 Hastings College in the 2011 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship game on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. CST.
