Men’s Soccer Moves into Top 10

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After winning its last three games of the HAAC regular season and ending in a tie for the HAAC regular season championship, the Baker University men's soccer team moved up from No. 16 to No. 10 in this week's NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.

The Wildcats ended the HAAC regular season with wins over Avila, 2-1, then-No. 6 Missouri Valley, 2-1 in double overtime, and Central Methodist, 1-0, to move to 5-1-1 in the conference and tied with Benedictine and MNU for the HAAC regular season title.

Baker earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming postseason tournament and will host No. 6 Avila next Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. inside Liston Stadium.

NOTES: (All information dates back to 2000) This week, No. 4 Ashford (Iowa) earns its highest ranking in program history... This year, Mobile (Ala.) became the first former No. 1 to fall out of the Top 25 in the same season since former member Azusa Pacific (Calif.) in 2008... This season, five different teams have been ranked No. 1: Belhaven (Miss.), Mobile, Hastings (Neb.), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Rio Grande (Ohio)... In 2012, just three teams claimed the No. 1 ranking all season: Lindsey Wilson, Rio Grande and Belhaven ... This is the third season—dating back to 2000, and the first since 2006—that, an NAIA-record five teams have been ranked No. 1 during the same year... Cal State San Marcos, Campbellsville (Ky.), Corban (Ore.), Georgia Gwinnett, Marymount (Calif.), Our Lady of the Lake (Texas), San Diego Christian (Calif.), St. Thomas (Texas) and Wayland Baptist (Texas) earned their first Top 25 rankings this season... Lindsey Wilson is the longest consecutively ranked active school at 79-straight polls, dating back to the 2007 Preseason Top 25 Poll... Rio Grande is next in line with 72-consecutive rankings, followed by Belhaven at 45 and Missouri Valley at 39... Lindsey Wilson boasts the most all-time No. 1 rankings with 47, followed by Rio Grande with 41, Bethel (Tenn.) with 11 and Hastings with 10... Overall, 18 different teams have claimed the No. 1 spot in the poll... Fifteen of the 21 conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented in the eighth regular-season Top 25 poll... Since 2000, just two teams have spent the entire season ranked No. 1—Bethel in 2009 and Rio Grande in 2004.
