No. 9 Baker to Host Avila Friday

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The No. 9 nationally ranked Baker University men's soccer team will enter the upcoming HAAC Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed and host No. 6 Avila this Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at Liston Stadium.

The Wildcats finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-5-2, and 5-1-1 mark in the HAAC, tying with MidAmerica Nazarene and Benedictine for first place.

Baker defeated the Eagles 2-1 back on Oct. 19th. Richard Klein and Robert Hoeven each scored a goal for the Wildcats, while Zach Herzig scored for the Eagles. Hoeven's goal came in the 85th minute in a game that saw 19 total shots.

Ben Coyle and Andy Griffin lead the team with five shots each. Matt Bickley comes into the match with 69 total saves and the Wildcats have won four straight matches against the Eagles.

The rest of the field in this week's conference tournament includes No. 4 Missouri Valley as they host No. 5 Graceland Friday night at 7 p.m., while MidAmerica Nazarene and Benedictine each earned first round byes.

The winner of Missouri Valley and Graceland will travel to MidAmerica Nazarene on Tuesday Nov. 12, and either Baker or Avila will play at Benedictine Tuesday Nov. 12.

Ticket prices for Friday's match are $5 for adults and $2 for students with Valid Student ID. Paid admission is required for admittance to all playoff and post-season home and away events.

Baker University students will be admitted free thanks to the support of Student Senate, Student Activities Council, Dean Cassy Bailey, and the Athletics Department.
