BU, MNU to Clash for HAAC Title

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The No. 3 seeded Baker University men's soccer team will travel to Olathe, Kan., this Friday, Nov. 15 to take on No. 1 seeded MidAmerica Nazarene at 1 p.m. in the HAAC Tournament Championship.

The Wildcats are 13-5-2 after defeating No. 6 seeded Avila 3-2 at home in the first round on Nov. 8, and No. 2 seeded Benedictine 2-1 in overtime on the road in the HAAC semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Andy Griffin, Preston Phillips, and Richard Klein each scored goals for the squad against Avila.

Klein and Griffin again came through in the semifinals with goals, as Klein scored the first goal of the game against Benedictine in the 33rd minute off a pass from Ben Coyle.

Then in the 93rd minute, Andy Griffin headed the ball into the net off a pass from Cameron Zimmerman to send Baker to the title game.

MNU is 14-3-2 and received a first round bye in the HAAC tournament, then the Pioneers beat No. 4 seeded Missouri Valley 3-2 at home in the semis.

Baker last faced MNU on the road Oct. 9 as the Pioneers won 2-1. Coyle scored for the Wildcats and Luke Souza scored the first goal for the Pioneers. Jonathan Babcock scored in the 109th minute to earn the victory for MNU.

The Wildcats and Pioneers also faced each other in the 2011 HAAC Championship when MNU defeated Baker 2-1 in Liston Stadium.

Trent Remmich and Luke Pontin scored for the Pioneers in the 12th and 62nd minute respectively. The Wildcats scored on an MNU own goal in the 76th minute.

With a victory Baker or MNU would earn an automatic bid into the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Opening Round on Nov. 23.

The men's soccer national championship tournament final site will take place in Montgomery, Ala., Dec. 2-7. The tournament field will be announced on Monday, Nov. 18.

The match will be featured live online with Live Stats and Live Video at www.bakerwildcats.com. Live stats will be carried free, but MNU will have a $5 fee to watch the live video feed.
