Bickley and Lowndes named HAAC Players of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – With a victory over defending National Champion Hastings (Neb.) last Tuesday, and a win over Benedictine on Saturday, midfielder Tom Lowndes and goalkeeper Matt Bickley were named HAAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, on Monday afternoon.
Lowndes scored the game-winning goal in the Wildcats’ 1-0 victory over No. 1 Hastings in overtime, ending an NAIA-record 39-game winning streak for the Broncos. He also added an assist in the ‘Cats 3-0 victory over No. 16 Benedictine College on Saturday.
Bickley claimed his second defensive award of the season, as he recorded two shutouts against top-ranked Hastings and No. 16 Benedictine. He currently has eight shutouts on the season and ranks third in the NAIA with a 0.43 goals against average.

No. 5 Baker overpowers No. 16 Benedictine in NAIA Game of the Week
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Two first half goals were all the Wildcats needed on Saturday evening to steal the momentum and cruise to a 3-0 victory over Benedictine College.
Baker (15-0, 5-0 HAAC) got on the scoreboard first in the 15th minute as Odaine Sinclair overpowered two Benedictine defenders in the box. Sean McAlister added a goal for the Wildcats in the 37th minute after receiving a ball in the box from Nick Ebmeyer, giving Baker the 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
Odaine Sinclair would strike again in the 57th minute on a corner kick from Tom Lowndes to seal the 3-0 victory.

No. 5 Baker defeats top-ranked No. 1 Hastings 1-0 in OT

HASTINGS, Neb. –The Baker University men’s soccer team won a key non-conference showdown Tuesday evening as it defeated top-ranked Hastings College (Neb.) to end the Broncos NAIA-record 39-game winning streak.
Baker struck in the first overtime courtesy of a ball from Nick Aguilar to Tom Lowndes in the 92nd minute.

No. 5 Baker men defeat Avila 2-1

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker men’s soccer team defeated a pesky Avila team on Saturday evening, 2-1.
The Wildcats struck first on Saturday as Rich Klein gave Baker an early lead in the ninth minute.
Avila scored an equalizer in the 51st minute on a goal by Dustin Deisher, but Baker quickly bounced back just four minutes as the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick that Tom Lowndes buried to take the 2-1 advantage.
BU goalkeeper Matt Bickley made one save in the contest.

Rydberg’s late goal lifts No. 5 Baker past MidAmerica Nazarene

OLATHE, Kan. – The game itself wasn’t always pretty at times, but the fifth-ranked Baker men’s soccer team managed to come through big, improving to 12-0 on the year with a 1-0 victory over MidAmerica Nazarene Tuesday evening.
First half action saw the Wildcats take seven shots on goal before play was halted eight minutes before the half due to lightning. Both teams remained scoreless heading into the break.

Tom Lowndes named HAAC Offensive Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior Tom Lowndes (Cardiff, Wales) was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday evening.
Lowndes was the catalyst for the sixth-ranked Baker offense, as the Wildcats claimed a 4-0 victory over No. 20 Graceland on Saturday evening. Lowndes scored two penalty kick goals and assisted on another goal to help the Wildcats improve to 11-0 on the year.
“Tom has worked very hard on providing good service and leads the conference in assists with 10,” said head coach Nate Houser. “We have a good test tomorrow on the road against MidAmerica Nazarene.”

No. 6 Baker cruises past Graceland 4-0; improve to 11-0

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University men’s soccer team improved to 11-0 on the year with a commanding 4-0 victory over Graceland University Saturday evening.
After a scoreless first half, Tom Lowndes put the Wildcats on the scoreboard first with back-to-back penalty kick goals.
Nick Ebmeyer added to the total in the 74th minute on a ball in the box from Odaine Sinclair. Richard Klein closed the game out in the 85th minute after receiving a ball from Tom Lowndes to give BU a 4-0 advantage.

Men’s soccer team jumps four spots in latest Top 25 poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After winning its HAAC opener on Sunday evening, the Baker men’s soccer team (10-0, 1-0 HAAC) jumped to sixth nationally in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.
Other HAAC schools in the Oct. 4 poll include Missouri Valley College (8-1-0), Benedictine College (10-0-0) and Graceland University (7-1-1).
“It’s fantastic that the hardwork of the team is being recognized nationally,” said head coach Nate Houser. “I think it’s great for the conference, but we’re really just more interested in where we end up at the end of the season.”
