No. 24 BU Runs Well at Stampede

JOPLIN, Mo. – The No. 24 ranked Baker University men’s and (RV) women’s cross country teams had stellar races on Saturday at the Missouri Southern Stampede.

The men’s squad finished third out of 21 teams, while the women’s team also took third out of 23 teams.

There were 195 runners in the men’s 8K race and 196 in the women’s 5K meet.

Aaron Caldwell led the way for the Wildcats with his 8th-place finish in a time of 26:06. Two other Wildcats finished in the Top 11 including Jeremy Bryan in 10th in a time of 26:08.31 and twin brother Justin finished just behind him in 11th in a time of 26:08.32

Eric Larson and Taylor Nall rounded out the top five places for Baker, finishing in 40th and 52nd-place respectively.

“Our guys did an outstanding job today,” said head cross country coach Zach Kindler. “We still need to work on closing the gap a little bit, but a great effort by our men’s team despite the tough weather conditions.”

Throughout the races on Saturday the weather was a factor, as it poured on the athletes from start to finish.

The women’s team finished only behind NCAA Division II Eastern New Mexico State and Rogers State.

Like she did in the Maple Leaf Invitational two week’s ago, Lauren Jaqua led the Wildcats with her time of 18:52 and fifth-place finish.

Kerry Kurta finished in 36th-place in a time of 19:32 and Ashley McBride finished not far behind her in 43rd. Megan Rosa took 45th and Lindsey Brown finished with the fifth fastest time of any Baker women’s runner with her time of 19:54 and 48th-place finish.

“To run this well, this early in the season is something we should be proud of,” said Kindler. “ It’s exciting to see where we are as a team.”
