Caldwell and Jaqua grab HAAC Runner of the Week honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sophomore Lauren Jaqua and junior Aaron Caldwell have been named HAAC Runners of the Week the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Jaqua claimed the top spot with a time of 18:46 over 5,000 meters at the Baker Open. She was less than a second off of her personal best time set last season at Fort Hays State.

Caldwell took 2nd place with a time of 26:49 on the Baker Open 8K course. His time was a full 10 seconds better than he ran last season on the same course.

Wildcat runners open with wins at Maple Leaf Invitational

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker men’s and women’s cross country teams got their seasons started in style on Saturday afternoon, winning the Maple Leaf Invitational.

Sophomore Lauran Jaqua (Lansing, Kan.) took first place on the ladies side with a time of 15:43 in the 4k. Ashley McBride (Olathe, Kan.) took third and Kerry Kurta (Overland Park, Kan.) took fourth to round out the top five with respective times of 16:01 and 16:12. Lindsey McDonald of Park University took second with a time of 15:55.

Baker cross country opens 2011 season on Saturday

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker men’s and women’s cross country squads will open up their seasons over the Labor Day weekend. The Wildcats will be hosting their annual Maple Leaf Invitational race on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Baldwin City Golf Course.

After winning the 2010 HAAC Championship, the Baker women’s team has high hopes entering the season. With nearly everyone returning, coach Zach Kindler believes the ‘Cats should have all the pieces to make a splash on the national level.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University cross country team closed out a successful fall season this past weekend when it traveled to South Florida for the Marathon of the Palm Beaches.

Baker men grab second place finish at HAAC meetHAAC

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - In the men’s 8-kilometer race, the Wildcats compiled 70 points to place second behind Graceland (16).

Baker junior Chris Scheideman finished 10th overall in 26:52.60 to qualify for the national meet in two weeks. Sophomore Aaron Caldwell (11th, 26:59.78) and sophomore Corey Clark (12th, 27:03.38) were close behind their Wildcat teammate.

Sophomore Taylor Nall (17th, 27:28.30), sophomore Eric Larson (25th, 27:48.39), junior Justin Hill (26th, 27:54.99) and freshman Jason Berry (31st, 28:18.25) rounded out Baker’s top seven runners at the meet.

Graceland’s Yonus Gebretinais (24:58.18) and Neil Grundman (25:52.32) placed 1-2 to lead the Yellowjackets to the team title.

As the 2010 Heart of America Athletic Conference cross country meet approaches, the outcome of the race for individual titles and team titles looks to be up in the air.  Many new runners have joined the scene, making the meet even more interesting.

Cross country teams have strong showing at NAIA Mid-States

WINFIELD, Kan. - The Baker cross country teams ended the regular season on Saturday at the NAIA Mid-States Classic. The women’s team finished third out of 23 teams and the men came in fifth out of 20 squads.
