OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 4 seeded Baker University softball team took down No. 5 Benedictine, 5-3, in game one of the 2014 HAAC Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

With the victory, Baker improves to 21-22, while the Ravens fell to 16-22 and are one loss away from ending its season.

The Ravens will take on Graceland in the losers bracket at 11 a.m. on Saturday, while Baker moves on to take on No. 1 Central Methodist at 11 a.m.

Baker and CMU last met on Apr. 12 in Fayette, Mo., and the Eagles narrowly defeated the Wildcats, 6-5, in game one and 10-6 in eight innings.

On Thursday against BC, Mallorie Nelson threw all seven innings and allowed just two earned runs and seven hits, she also struck out six Ravens.

The Ravens struggled in the field with seven errors and had went scoreless in the first five innings, scoring two runs in the sixth and once in the seventh.

Baker posted three runs in the bottom of the second when Peyton Weekly knocked in two runs. As she ran to first first baseman Mary Jo Peter went to put the tag on Weekly in the first but the ball squirted away and scored both Ilona Miller and Tara Chumley. Then Weekly later scored.

The Wildcats put one run on the board in the bottom of the third when Chumley doubled to left field, scoring Lucy Staats.

The 'Cats scored one last run in the sixth, as Alyse Menghini singled to center scoring Dill.

Central Methodist rolled past No. 8 Graceland in its first game on Friday, run-ruling the Yellowjackets, 12-0, in five innings. Live stats will be available at www.bakerwildcats.com.
