Coach Windle set to take over softball program
The Baker Wildcats enter the season with a new hunger and a new leader. Matt Windle takes the reins of a team that struggled with injuries and missed the conference tournament in 2009.
They return a strong nucleus, including all-HAAC outfielder Brooke Allen, and seniors Kelsey Epperson and Chelsi Taylor. The trio will be expected to lead a group that has high expectations. The Wildcats will welcome four freshmen, including Blue Valley High School pitcher Heather Gruber. "Heather will be a much needed addition to our thin pitching rotation," Windle said. Red-shirt freshman Brittany Vollenweider will also be asked to carry much of the pitching load after coming off a season-ending shoulder injury. "Brittany has worked hard to rehab her shoulder and is expected to be a major contributor this season," Windle stated. Look for the 2010 Wildcats to play a new brand of hard-nosed, blue-collar softball come this spring.
