Softball inks two future Wildcats

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Baker University is proud to announce the signing of Maggie Holmberg and Sara Bell. Holmberg comes to Baker from Washburn Rural High School in Topeka while Bell comes from LaMointe High School in Missouri.

Holmberg, a 6-foot-1 senior, commands a presence on the mound and possesses a calmness that makes her one of the top high school pitchers in Kansas.

She was a member of Washburn Rural’s Class 6A state championship softball team in 2008 and state runner-up in 2009. She also played on the Junior Blues’ state championship basketball team in 2009.

“I feel that we have the jewel in our recruiting class this season with Maggie,” Baker softballBell coach Matt Windle said. “Not only is she a dominant pitcher, but she also has an amazing outfield arm and can swing the bat exceptionally well. I see Maggie stepping in and contributing in a very big way as a freshman. Pitching wins championships and she is a proven winner.”

Bell currently plays infield for her high school and traveling team, but can play multiple postions. "I consider Sara to be a blue-collar player that will work hard, she is absoultely relentless. We're very happy to have her on board," stated Windle.
