BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker softball team will look to keep its six-game winning streak alive on Wednesday evening as it hosts Haskell Indian Nations University at 5 p.m. from Cavaness Field.
The Wildcats (13-9, 4-0 HAAC) are currently tied for first-place in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) thanks to the stellar play of freshman Maggie Holmberg.
Holmberg was named HAAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday thanks to a week where she went 3-0 posting an ERA of 0.67. Baker’s other freshman Erin Greenwood has also been one of the most consistent pitchers on the team with a 4-4 overall record and 3.04 ERA. Tara Heinrich, Heather Gruber, Erin Greenwood and Erin Ford are all batting over .300, while Brooke Allen leads the team with a .418 batting average. Brooke Allen and Austin Boehm still own a perfect fielding percentage on the season.
Haskell (1-11, 0-0 MCAC) comes into play reeling after dropping its last eight contests. Haskell has been shutout six times thus far on the season and Baker has allowed no more than two runs in the past four games with one shutout. Haskell has also given up an average of 13 runs while only scoring three runs during its eight game skid.
“We can’t look past Haskell heading into our first-place showdown with MidAmerica Nazarene,” said head coach Matt Windle. “This is one of those trap games where we can’t afford to lose momentum.”
