Wildcats sweep Lady Blues in playoff tune-up
TOPEKA, Kan. – It was a homecoming game for Topeka natives Brooke Allen, Maggie Holmberg and Erin Greenwood. The trio didn’t disappoint.
Erin Greenwood pitched a complete game shutout while giving up just six hits in game one. She also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run.
Brooke Allen got the Wildcats on the scoreboard first in the third inning blasting a two-run home run off Washburn (12-24) pitcher Danielle Fox to give the Wildcats (28-18) the lead for good.
Baker recorded a total of four hits in the 3-0 victory while playing errorless ball defensively.
Game two saw Maggie Holmberg grab the spotlight as she pitched a complete game one-hitter to lead the Wildcats to a double-header sweep.
Greenwood led the Wildcats going 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI’s. Heather Gruber added an RBI also going 1-for-3.
“We got killed here when we played these guys in the fall,” said head coach Matt Windle. “I think it goes to show just how far we’ve come as a team. I think our girls will be prepared to make a run in the HAAC playoffs.”
The Wildcats will return to action on Friday afternoon when they host their home finale against Bellevue College (Neb.) at 2:00 p.m., from Cavaness Field.
