Baker softball team sets school record

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – All they needed was one more victory in the regular season to surpass the all-time school record for wins in a season of 28. The Wildcats (30-18, 13-7 HAAC) did just that on Friday afternoon against non-conference foe Bellevue University (Neb.).
Renata Dill led the Wildcats in game one going 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. Maggie Holmberg (12-4) was stellar yet again on the rubber pitching a complete game, giving up just one earned run on six hits with eight strikeouts in the 3-1 victory.
Bellevue’s only run came in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Allie Bartley.
Game two saw the Wildcats record another 3-1 victory, thanks to a fine pitching performance by Heather Gruber (6-5). Gruber pitched a complete game giving up one earned run on eight hits. Kayla Morse and Heather Gruber each led the way offensively going 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI.
“We’ve got one more tune-up on Tuesday before we head into the HAAC playoffs next weekend,” said head coach Matt Windle.
The Wildcats will face Kansas Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon in Salina, Kan. at 3:00 p.m.
