Wildcats set to open HAAC Playoff quest against Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Baker opens the Heart of America conference playoffs Friday afternoon with the first two games of a best-of-three opening round against Evangel University. The Wildcats are seeded fifth in the league with a 31-19 overall record and a 13-7 conference mark. Evangel enters play seeded fourth with a 29-11 overall record and 14-6 league mark.

The first two games of the series begin Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. and game three, if necessary, will be played Saturday at 1 p.m.

The winner of the opening round advances to the HAAC Championship Series, a four-team double-elimination tournament played with the highest seed hosting.

Baker enters Friday’s game winners in five of its last six contests. The Wildcats split a doubleheader with Kansas Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon.

Evangel enters play after winning six straight games to clinch home field advantage in the opening round of the HAAC tournament.

The Wildcats ranks second in the HAAC in pitching with a team ERA of 2.15. Starting pitchers Maggie Holmberg (1.72 ERA) and Erin Greenwood (2.03 ERA both rank in the top 10 in the HAAC. Brooke Allen continues to lead the Baker offense as she is ranked sixth in the league with a .406 batting average.

Evangel Quick Hits
Danelle Billings continues to lead the Crusader offense as she is ranked second in the league with a .427 batting average. She is second in slugging percentage (.922), RBI’s (42) and home runs (13).

Other Opening Round Match-Ups
The other match-ups for the opening round are: #8 Missouri Valley (12-23, 7-13) at #1 Central Methodist (37-13, 16-4), #7 Benedictine (20-17, 10-10) at #2 MidAmerica Nazarene (33-10, 15-5) and #6 William Jewell (36-17, 11-9) at #3 Lindenwood (29-21, 15-5).
