Wildcats finish opening weekend tournament 2-1

Opening Weekend

FORT WORTH, Texas – After splitting the season opening doubleheader with Ottawa University, the Baker softball team bounced back with two victories this past weekend at the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas.

Baker opened the tournament with a commanding 6-0 victory over Northwood University (Texas). Summer Kelley led the way offensively going 1-for-2 at the plate with a two-run homer. Erin Greenwood was the story though as she pitched a flawless complete game, giving up just three hits in the shutout.

Baker fell 3-2 in their second game of the tournament to third-ranked Oklahoma City University. Brooke Allen highlighted the offense going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Summer Kelley also added an RBI in the contest. Maggie Holmberg was tagged with the loss after pitching a complete game while giving up eight hits and three earned runs.

The Wildcats bounced back yet again in the final game of the tournament, knocking off Texas Weleyan University, 5-4. Erin Greenwood paced the Baker offense going 2-for-4 at the plate with a two-run homer. Renata Dill, Cami Williams, and Tara Heinrich all added RBI’s in the contest. Erin Greenwood was the winning pitcher yet again, finishing with a complete game eight-hitter.

Baker returns to action on Mar. 9 when the Wildcats travel to Conway, Ark., to face Oklahoma Baptist University and Rogers State University.
