Greenwood and Kelley sweep HAAC softball awards
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After a 4-0 week in HAAC play, including a sweep over No. 18 Evangel, both Erin Greenwood (Topeka, Kan.) and Summer Kelley (Shawnee, Kan.) were named HAAC Pitcher and Player of the Week respectively the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Greenwood was a standout in the circle for the Wildcats as she claimed two of the four victories for the Cats‘. She tossed 9.0 innings and allowed just five hits while striking out 12 in a 5-2 win over Evangel. She followed that up with a no-hitter with just one walk and 10 strikeouts in a 3-0 victory over Peru State. She also went 6-for-13 at the plate that included a two-run homer against Peru State and tallied six RBIs for the week.
Kelley had a stellar week at the plate for Baker as the Wildcats improved to 16-9 overall and 6-2 in the HAAC. Kelley batted .538 (7-of-13) with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. She highlighted the week by going 4-for-5 with a run scored and one RBI in a 5-2 win over No. 18 Evangel to help sweep a doubleheader from the Crusaders.
Kelley and Greenwood will represent the conference in the running for the NAIA Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, which will be released no later than Tuesday afternoon.
