“We definitely need to be more consistent against Evangel,” said Baker head softball coach Matt Windle. “We didn’t execute in our opening round game against Peru State College. Our pitchers need to keep the ball down in the zone.”
Baker dropped the opening game against Peru State College by a score of 5-4. Erin Greenwood knocked a solo home run in the first inning, but PSU’s five run second inning was all the offense the Bobcats needed to put Baker’s backs to the wall.
It didn’t phase the Wildcats.
Baker bounced back with a 5-1 victory in game two and Erin Greenwood highlighted game three with a one hit 2-0 shutout to help the Wildcats advance to the semifinals.
On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded Central Methodist University will face off with MidAmerica Nazarene. All four teams will begin play on Friday at 3 p.m., at the Blue Valley Recreation Sports Complex.
The teams will continue play immediately following the first set of games to conclude the first day of play with one squad finishing their postseason run in an elimination game. The loser's bracket will resume on Saturday at noon while the first of two potential championship games is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. If both teams finish that game with one loss, one final winner-take-all game will start at approximately 4:00 p.m.
The winner of the 2012 HAAC Tournament will receive an automatic berth to the 32nd Annual NAIA Softball National Championship, scheduled for May 17-23 at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex in Gulf Shores, Ala.
