LAMONI, Iowa – The Baker University softball team swept its Heart of America Athletic Conference season opening doubleheader at Graceland University with a 1-0 shutout win over the Yellowjackets and a 4-1 win to improve to 9-5 and 2-0 in the HAAC.

In game one, the game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Wildcats lit up the scoreboard on an Alyse Menghini home run off of Graceland's Alyssa Greenstreet.

That was the only run scored in the contest. Baker finished with four hits, as Brooke Plummer, Erin Greenwood, Mallorie Nelson and Menghini all had a hit.

Greenwood stole the show with a complete game, shut out no-hitter and stuck out nine Yellowjackets.

In game two, the Wildcats bats awoke but not until the seventh inning. Baker scored a run in the top of the first with a Nelson RBI double that scored Greenwood.

Graceland then tied the game up in the bottom of the third and both teams went scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Then in the top of the seventh, the Wildcats scored three runs to shore up the victory. The scoring began on a Renata Dill double to centerfield that scored Tara Chumley. Then Greenwood followed that up with a single to left field that scored Dill.

Peyton Weekly scored the final run of the inning on an error by Graceland off of a Menghini at-bat.

Nelson threw the first three innings of the game, and then Greenwood came in relief and picked up the win.

Baker will next take on Culver-Stockton on Saturday, Mar. 30 at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader for its first home games since Feb. 9.
