BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After trailing for the entirety of the first game, the Baker University softball team came storming back to beat MNU, 3-2, with all three of its runs coming in the bottom of the seventh inning to take game one of the doubleheader.

In game two, MidAmerica's bats went wild and defeated Baker, 13-4, to split the doubleheader at Cavaness Field.

The Wildcats top pitcher Erin Greenwood threw a solid seven innings in game one and gave up just two runs all in the top of the third inning.

But her teammates came through in the end, with a rally in the final inning. Ilona Miller grounded out to the short stop that scored Peyton Weekly to give Baker its first run of the game.

Then with two outs, Renata Dill came up and singled to center field. Greenwood then came up and walked and Alyse Menghini came up and slammed a double into the right-centerfield gap that scored both Dill and Greenwood and the Baker dugout cleared with excitement and gave the Wildcats the 3-2 win over its rival.

In game two, MNU scored a run in all seven innings and the Wildcats went scoreless until the fifth inning.

Mallorie Nelson started for the Wildcats and lasted just 1.1 innings, giving up three earned runs and four hits. Brooke Plummer then came in relief and gave up seven earned runs and nine hits in 5.2 innings of work.

MNU scored its 13 runs on 13 hits. Greenwood and Summer Kelley each had two hits for the Wildcats and Kelley and Tara Chumley each hit a home run in the second contest.

Kelley hit a two-run bomb in the bottom of the sixth and Chumley hit her solo homer in the bottom of the seventh.

The Wildcats have four more Heart of America Athletic Conference games this weekend, as they take on Evangel University on Saturday, Apr. 13 at 2 and 4 p.m. at Cavaness Field and Missouri Valley on Sunday at 2 and 4 p.m.
