SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Baker University softball team traveled to Shawnee, Okla., on Saturday and came home with a split, as they defeated Oklahoma Baptist University, 4-1 in game one, and lost in game two, 6-2.

With the split, Baker is now 21-11 on the year and will next take on nationally ranked Park University on Tuesday evening at Cavaness Field at 5 and 7 p.m.

Erin Greenwood picked up another victory for the Wildcats and went the distance throwing seven innings and allowed just two hits and struck out a season high 16. She also struck out 16 batters against Evangel on Apr. 13.

Baker trailed 1-0 after the Bison scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, but then the Baker bats awoke and the Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the second.

Summer Kelley led off the inning with a single to centerfield. Then with two outs MaKayla Greeve walked. Tara Chumley came up and hit a fly ball to centerfield but Amanda Harmon dropped the fly and both Kelley and Greeve scored on the error.

Then in the top of the second, Baker came up big with two more runs. The Wildcats capitalized on another Bison error, as Ilona Miller reached first on an error by first baseman Kasey Maddox.

The Wildcats then scored with two outs again, as Alyse Menghini singled to left field and scored Miller and Kelley then came up and singled to third base, moving Menghini to third base. Mallorie Nelson then came up and singled to right field scoring Menghini.

Then Greenwood lit up OBU with three strikeouts to end the game.

In the second game, Nelson got the start in the circle for Baker and threw 4.1 innings but gave up all six earned runs and seven hits. Greenwood closed things out for Baker and threw the final 1.2 innings allowing only one hit.

Baker scored first in the top of the first when Greenwood doubled to left field, then Menghini followed that up with a double to center, scoring Menghini.

The other run was scored in the top of the fifth on a Greenwood RBI single that scored Greeve.
