Baker Ends Season in HAAC Semifinals

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Baker University softball team ended its 2013 season on Sunday afternoon in the HAAC Conference Tournament semifinals at the hands of No. 2 seeded MidAmerica Nazarene, 2-1.

The No. 3 seeded Wildcats end the year with an overall record of 23-14. MNU and No. 1 Central Methodist will now go on to compete in the HAAC Championship.

MNU put its two runs on the board in the bottom of the first and bottom of the third innings against HAAC First-Team All-Conference pitcher Erin Greenwood.

Baker managed six hits off of Taylor Pearcy, with two coming from Renata Dill and two from Greenwood and Mallorie Nelson went 1-for-3.

Baker scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth, as Greenwood singled up the middle and scored Dill from second base.

Then in the top of the seventh with the season on the line, Baker went down 1-2-3 and MNU advanced to the championship game.

The Wildcats began the tournament with a 7-0 win over No. 6 seeded Benedictine on Sunday with a complete game shutout victory for Erin Greenwood. She allowed only one hit to the Ravens.

Baker put up runs in the first, third and fourth innings and proved to be plenty for its victory at the Blue Valley Recreation Complex.

The Wildcats had 12 hits on the combination of BC pitchers of Katelyn Nill and Mallory Goulding.

Renata Dill and Greenwood each went 3-for-4 and Menghini had three RBI including a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.

Cami Williams went 2-for-3 and the only Raven to collect a hit was Briana Rombach the BC leadoff hitter.
