BU Goes 1-2 in Day One of Classic

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Baker University softball team opened up the 2014 season on Valentine's Day with a 1-2 record in day one of the Cowtown Classic, first falling to No. 3 ranked Oklahoma City, 9-0, in five innings, then followed that up with a 5-3 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan and a 4-3 loss to NCAA Division I Incarnate Word.

In game one against the nationally ranked Stars, the Wildcats managed just three hits with Renata Dill, Ilona Miller with singles and Sammie Schroeder added a double. Mallorie Nelson pitched in the circle for BU and recorded the loss.

In game two, freshman pitcher Katt Cooper threw a complete game with 16 strikeouts and one walk and gave up just two hits.

Offensively, Baker had seven hits with Peyton Weekly supplying two singles and Tara Chumley along with Cami Williams both had doubles.

Miller had one RBI in the contest and Williams knocked in a team high two RBI's, teammate Alyse Menghini added a hit and a walk.

In the final game of the day, Mallorie Nelson was again the starter and picked up the loss. Baker had eight hits with Dill leading the way with two singles and a triple, she also knocked in a run.

Baker will next take on the University of St. Mary on Saturday at 9 a.m. and Doane College Saturday at 11 a.m.
