BU Earns No. 4 Seed in HAAC Tourney

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Baker University softball team will enter the 2014 HAAC Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 Benedictine in the first round on Thursday, May 1 at 4 p.m. at the Blue Valley Sports Complex in Overland Park, Kan.

The complex is located at: 9701 W 137th St, Overland Park, KS 66221.

The tournament is a double-elimination style bracket and win or lose on Thursday, the Wildcats will play at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2. With a win over Benedictine, Baker will play the winner of the No. 1 Central Methodist vs. No. 8 Graceland at 11 a.m., or with a loss Baker would take on the loser of that CMU vs. Graceland game also at 11 a.m.

The Wildcats enter the tournament with an overall record of 20-22 and 10-8 in the HAAC, while Benedictine enters the week 16-21 and 9-9.

Both teams split its last doubleheader on Apr. 23 at Cavaness Field with Baker winning game one, 4-3, and the Ravens winning game two, 10-0.

The Ravens feature one of the biggest offensive threats in the HAAC in junior Megan Eldredge, she is currently second in the HAAC in batting average at .429.

The Wildcats freshman pitcher Katt Cooper is ranked No. five in the HAAC in ERA at 2.37 and leads the conference in opponent batting average at .194.

Mallorie Nelson is averaging a HAAC leading 8.03 strikeouts per game and Cooper is right behind her ranking second at 7.12.
