BU Competes in Regional Qualifier Sat.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University Spirit Squad team will travel to Marshall, Mo., this Saturday, Feb. 2 to take part in the NAIA Cheer and Dance Regional Qualifier and will compete for the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship banner.

The competition will take place at Missouri Valley's Burns Athletic Complex and doors open at 8 a.m.

The Wildcats will take part in the regional qualifier for cheer, small dance and mascot competitions. Seven teams will compete in all three categories.

To win the HAAC championship banner a team must compete in all three areas, and the Wildcats will take on Benedictine, Central Methodist, Graceland and Missouri Valley for the conference crown.

The dance team will also compete in the hip hop competition against five other teams, Baker won the hip hop section last season and finished second in the small dance portion of the show a year ago.

The Cheer squad took third-place in the 2012 All-Girl Cheer competition and will look to take home the championship this season under head coach Allyssa King.

"This is the biggest regional qualifier competition in the NAIA," said dance head coach Lynsey Payne. "We are very excited about the high level of competition we will compete against this weekend."
