Baker dance team headed to NCA/NDA College Nationals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Baker University small dance team will be performing at the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship. This year’s event will be held at The Band Shell/Ocean Center/Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach, Florida April 7-10.

The team automatically qualified for the event after taking second-place in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships. Cheer and Dance remains an emerging sport in the NAIA, but head dance coach Lynsey Payne knows this competition could mean big things in the long run.

Spirit Squad sets record for participants in Kids Clinic

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The Baker University Spirit Squad held its third annual Kid’s Clinic on Saturday, February 19th with a record 26 participants.

The participants consisted of children ages four through eleven years old.

In addition to performing their cheer and dance routines at the Baker University women’s basketball game against Missouri Valley, the participants received a t-shirt, poms, face tattoos and a BU silly band. “Everyone had a great time and the halftime show was great,” said head dance coach Lynsey Payne.

CANTON, Mo. – The Baker University dance team took second place this past weekend at the inaugural NAIA/Heart of America Athletic Conference Cheer and Dance Competition held at Joe Charles Field House on the campus of Culver-Stockton College.

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Baker spirit squad traveled to Lawrence, Kansas, to participate in the annual UCA/UCD dance camp held on the University of Kansas campus July 27-29th.

Both teams recorded a strong showing, earning a broze bid to the national competition set to be held in Daytona, Fla., during the month of April.

Dance team camptain Katie Kopy was named an UCD All-American for her performance throughout the week.

Both coach Payne and coach Webb were very pleased with their teams performances. "We look forward to the 2010-11 season, I think both teams are really beginning to show just what kind of potential we might have heading into nationals," said Payne. "I can't wait for our student-athletes to get back on campus so we can start our practices for the upcoming fall season."

FAYETTE, Mo. - The Baker University spirit squad put together a strong showing this past weekend placing fourth in the small dance routine at the HAAC Spirit Squad Championships. The Baker women also took home a sixth-place finish in the hip hop routine.

Webb named spirit squad coach, Schreiner steps down

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - After serving as the head spirit squad coach for the past two seasons, head coach Taylor Schreiner announced she will be stepping down to pursue her masters degree.

Schreiner broke the news to the spirit squad members last week at practice. "I have certainly loved my time at Baker! Everyone here has been very supportive of me and the cheer squad," Schreiner said on Sunday. "I'm very confident that I am leaving a strong foundation of current members and new members that will help the cheer squad grow and achieve the success that I know they are capable of and deserve!
