Baker survives scare at Missouri Valley

The Baker University volleyball team continued its conference schedule on Tuesday evening when they traveled to Marshall, Missouri to take on the Vikings.

Set 1 was all Baker, Brooke Pryor recorded six kills and Christina Delladio recorded two aces as Baker took the set 25-19.

The Vikings of Missouri Valley jumped out to an early 15-7 lead in set 2 before head coach Kathy Allen was forced to call a timeout. The Wildcats came storming back trailing by two points 18-20 before Missouri Valley had to call a timeout themselves. Baker battled back to tie the game at a 24-24 deadlock before Missoui Valley was able to score two-consecutive points to take Set 2, 26-24.

In set 3 it was Missouri Valley yet again jumping out to a 21-16 lead. Brooke Pryor recorded four kills, while Nichole Kamies chipped in with two. In the end Missouri Valley stunned the Wildcats taking Set 3, 25-21.

Set 4 was all Baker. The Wildcats pulled away late taking the set 25-16. Christina Delladio recorded three kills in the set, including a floor thumping game winner.

It was do or die in Set 5. Baker jumped out to a 9-7 lead before the Vikings were forced to call a late timeout. The Vikings managed to storm back to take a 13-11 advantage before head coach Kathy Allen was forced to take a timeout. The Wildcats managed to make a great comeback tying the set 14-14 thanks to a set and kill from Jana Boss to Brooke Pryor. In the end, Brooke Pryor closed out the Vikings with a kill to take the set and game 17-15.

The Wildcats improved to 26-3 and 6-1 in the Heart of America Conference. The Wildcats will be back in action Friday evening when they play host to Central Methodist University at 7:30 p.m. in the Collins Center.
