Baker volleyball team set to open playoff run Saturday evening

2011 HAAC VB Playoffs

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker women’s volleyball team will begin its quest for the 2011 HAAC Tournament Championship on Saturday evening against Avila University in the opening round of the HAAC Playoffs.

Top-seeded Baker (24-10, 9-0 HAAC) is coming of its first regular season Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship under 14th year head coach Kathy Allen.

Eighth-seeded Avila (16-17, 2-7 HAAC) will have its hands full on Saturday evening as Baker defeated the Eagles 3-0 less than two weeks ago in Kansas City, Mo.

Senior Christina Delladio continues to lead the Baker offensive attack with 2.6 kills per set. She also ranks fourth in the NAIA with 161 total blocks. Setter Jana Boss currently ranks 36th nationally with 1,052 assists (8.6 per set).

Senior Brooke Allen continues to lead the defensive effort with 5.2 digs per set. She currently ranks 16th nationally with 631 total digs.

Katelyn Frakes leads the Eagles in three of the top five statistical categories, aces (0.4 per set), assists (8.8 per set), and digs (3.9 per set).

“I think the team will be ready,” said head coach Kathy Allen. “We’ve realized what we did in the regular season was great, but its time to move on to the next step and start our new season.”
