Volleyball team set for HAAC title showdown with MidAmerica Nazarene

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University women’s volleyball team hasn’t been in the unique position of clinching a HAAC postseason title since the 1995 season, when the ‘Cats advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.

Saturday evening, top-seeded Baker will have everything on the line when it faces No. 2-seed MidAmerica Nazarene. The winner of Saturday’s match will receive an automatic berth into the 2011 NAIA National Championships, with the opening round set to be held Nov. 19 at host campus sites.

Baker (26-10, 9-0 HAAC) is currently a 15-game winning streak, with its last defeat coming at the hands of College of the Ozarks on Sept. 23.

Christina Delladio leads the Baker offense with 2.6 kills per set and ranks fifth nationally with 1.4 blocks per set. Defensively, Brooke Allen leads the way with 660 total digs (5.2 per set) good enough for 16th nationally.

Junior Savannah Smith leads the squad with 36 service aces on the season and setter Jana Boss currently sits 41st nationally with 1088 total assists.

MidAmerica Nazarene (27-7, 8-1 HAAC) defeated Evangel University 3-0 on Wednesday. The Pioneers last defeat was on Oct. 18 to Baker by a score of 3-1.

Linjun Ji contines to pace the Pioneer offense with 2.7 kills per set. Defensively, Laura Hamblin (4.1 digs per set) and Megan Hayes (1.1 blocks per set) lead the Pioneers.

First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. in the George F. Collins Center on the campus of Baker University.
