Volleyball Begins HAAC Season Tonight

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University Volleyball team will open up the Heart of America Athletic Conference regular season this Tuesday, Sept. 11 as they take on Central Methodist at the Collins Center at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats enter the match winners of four of its last five matches with an 8-5 overall record, while CMU comes to town winning three straight matches after opening the year 0-6.

Baker is 4-1 at home in 2012 and defeated the Eagles in three sets last season on the road (25-9, 25-11, 25-14).

The Wildcats have three players with 100 or more kills on the season including senior Savannah Smith with 144, junior Crystal Simon with 130 and freshman Danielle French with 104.

HAAC Setter of the Week, Jana Boss has 88 kills on the season and features the teams leading hitting percentage at .360. As a team the Wildcats are hitting .162.

Boss has 418 assists on the year, good for an average of 8.36 per set and is second on the team in solo blocks with seven, French leads the team with eight solo blocks.

French and Smth are among the team leaders in service aces with 17 and 16 respectively and Shannon Bond is third on the team in that category with 15.

In CMU’s last three victories they defeated Bacone (Okla.) in four sets, Stephens College in four and University of St. Mary in straight sets. The Eagles are 0-1 in HAAC play, after losing to Benedictine in three sets on Sept. 5.
