OLATHE, Kan. – The Baker University volleyball team had a tough day on the court in day one of the MidAmerica Nazarene University tournament.

The Wildcats fell to No. 12 Grand View in four sets (16-25, 20-25, 25-22, 17-25) and to Bellevue University (RV) in three sets (21-25, 17-25, 19-25).

With the losses, Baker falls to 10-7 overall, but they will have a chance to bounce back on Saturday when they face Oklahoma City at 10 a.m. and No. 11 Oklahoma Baptist at 2 p.m. at MNU’s Cook Center.

In the second match of the day, Crystal Simon led the way with eight kills and had just two attack errors. Baker hit just .170 as a team against the Bruins and allowed Bellevue to hit .365 as a team.

BU had two players with double-digit kills including Annie Benson with a match high 14 and Caitlyn Rueth.

Savannah Smith had 10 digs and five kills for the Wildcats and Renata Dill led the way with 12 digs.

In the first match against Grand View, Smith had a team high 11 kills. Four Wildcats collected 10 or more digs including Dill with 21, Jana Boss with 15, Kaysha Green with 12 and Kylie Pease with 10.

Boss led the team in assists with 31 and freshman Shannon Bond added seven kills with just two attack errors. The Wildcats had eight team blocks and Danielle French assisted on six blocks.
